Care for the elderly in Northumberland.
Our staff, residents and trustees hosted a tea party for staff from the Hexham Marks and Spencer’s store to thank them a generous £5,000 donation.
Our charity was Marks and Spencer’s Charity of the Year in 2015-2016, and £5,000 was raised through organised bag packing and tombola events.
The substantial donation partly funded the redecoration of the upstairs lounge at Charlotte Straker House and the purchase of brand new accessible chairs, sofas, new décor and fabrics.
The Crafty Women and the Tynedale Lions also generously contributed towards the refurbishment of the lounge, plus the proceeds from this year’s Ceilidh in January.
Joe Taylor (Section Manager), Ann Wightman (Section Coordinator) and Daryl Hodgson (Sales Assistant) visited to see the new refurbishment and were given a home-made cream tea with the residents of the home including Ron, Betty and Olive.
Joe said “It’s wonderful that we can see exactly how our donation has helped this charity. The new lounge is beautiful, and we’ve really enjoyed meeting the residents, having a tour round the home and sampling the Head Cook’s home-made cakes.”
Angela Jones, Trustee of our charity added, “We’re so grateful to the staff of Marks and Spencer’s, plus the Crafty Women and the Tynedale Lions, as their fundraising has allowed us to redecorate our upstairs lounge and buy some properly accessible chairs and sofas. Our residents were delighted with their visit and everyone very much enjoyed the home-made cream tea”.
Thankyou to Ian Wylie, for the fab photos!
